The Popularity Of Preschool Games
By Steve Hall, Fri Dec 9th

Throughout the web, you will see that one of the most targetedaudiences for games is for children under school age. Arepreschool games good for the child? And, should you be usingthem as part of your child's early education? With so manymarketing geniuses working on promoting these games to parentsof younger children, it is wise to take a step back and analyzethe game prior to choosing it as the right one for your child.

There is no doubt that games are popular. Some of thebiggest names in television usually star in their owncomputer game. Other games will showcase various other 'stars'of television. But, the question is, should you exposeyour young child to these games?

To answer that question, you may want to consider why youshouldn't do so. If you are concerned with overexposure totelevision and computers, this can be controlled and thereforenot a problem. If you are wondering if your child can actuallygain anything from these games, you can rest assured that theywill learn some, but not everything. You still need to investtime and energy with one on one learning as well.

Like television programming, a little really can go along way with these games. By taking the time to explore thegame first you will know if it is appropriate for your child. And, you can then tell how interested they are in the game aswell. This is a key factor in children enjoying the game in thefirst place.

When the child does enjoy games like these, they will be fun toplay and therefore they will want to play more often. Repetitionis the key factor in these games. The repetition that is offeredwill allow the child to gain considerable

amounts of knowledgethrough the use of the game. But, that does not mean that youneed to expose them to the game all the time.

You can and should take the time to wisely choose the games thatyou expose your child, especially your toddler to. You will findthat some games offer an advanced level of educational skillswhile others offer somewhat simpler ideals. This makes themperfect because you can then choose games that are appropriatelevels for your child. Inside the games, you will find a wideassortment of skill learning. The alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes and even simple math and reading can be gained from thesegames.

What makes these types of games so attractive is thatthey teach the information in a fun, easy to follow way so thatchildren can become engrossed with it and therefore learn fromit. But, how much is enough and how much do you expose yourchild to the games? It is wise for each parent to make thisindividual choice since it all depends on their needs, beliefsand abilities. But, it is safe to say that computer use andtelevision use should be limited at least somewhat throughoutthe first few years of life simply to encourage children topretend play and get physical activity.

As parents consider whether or not to allow their preschooler touse these computer games, remember that when you make learningfun, learning happens easier for many kids. Take the time toexplore the options in these games and you are sure to find morethan one that fits even the stringent of needs.
