Missouri Kids in Crisis - Paternity Fraud Victims
The harm caused by paternity fraud is not in doubt. Consider this… A Woman’s Day poll shows that 50%+ of the respondants would willfully lie about paternity in order to secure child support. And in a survey of DNA testing facilities in the US a full 30% of all potential fathers (named by the mothers).. was found to not be the father of the child. But the State has decided that they want the victims of paternity fraud to have no recourse. That if you, your husband, your son, your father is named as “the dad” then they will pay… forever. And the damage this on marriages, families, the health of the victim and his family and on the misnamed children as well is both very real and totally unnecessary.
And it seems that there is no help in sight. Contacting State Representatives in an attempt to correct this problem is like herding cats that don’t listen. You see, States collect big money in Federal funds every time they can say “we’re collecting child support“. As long as they can name anyone and make them pay the State government gets the benefit of Federal largess. There arn’t support groups, financial assistance, counseling, or any other help available to the families who are paying for children they had no part in bringing in to this world. “But what about these children?” is a common rebuke we hear. Well, what about these children? Since the mother of these children either lied or simply doesn’t know who the real father is these children have no valid paternal medical history available. They are scarred emotionally because they have been living the lie their mother created. Money collected on their behalf cannot fix this. Only the real truth, honestly faced can.
The mothers that choose to lie (or just don’t know which guy) fathered their children are the only beneficiaries of this fraud. This is not in the best interest of our children. By attempting to force parental relationships where they do not exist is considered by many States to be the right thing to do. We’ve looked at many cases and in most of them there has never been any contact with the children, the mother has prevented contact, or there is a large geographic seperation between them. Sometimes this is the man’s choice. There are many thousands of cases where the only objective of these mothers is to get money. They do not believe that having a father in their child’s life is important and even if they do they are ignoring the real father of the child. When these children learn that the man they thought was their father, isn’t… a wound that can never heal is inflicted upon them. The stress of not knowing who, and where, their real father is causes further damage. All because their mother is either a liar, or just doesn’t know who fathered her children.
Then you look at the biological children of this same man…. They have to live with a father who is stressed out, financially burdened and demoralized by an unfair justice system. The entire lives of these children will be affected by financial and emotional suffering. These children live with their real parents in many cases and are see firsthand the hardship and stress that their parents suffer due to paternity fraud. These hardships should not have to be endured by them. They see that committing fraud and lying pays. What kind of example are we setting for these children? Allowing the continuation of paternity fraud in the age of DNA testing is not in their best interest.
We need to think of our children and stop this injustice. We need to get off our duffs and let our State Representatives and Senators know that Missouri’s promulgation of paternity fraud by government authority must change. It’s time we put a stop to paternity fraud in Missouri, and everywhere else. Our children cannot afford less.
