Is there no end to Spiderman’s popularity? The answer is a resounding “no”. Spiderman is one of those timeless classic superheroes which appeal to young and old alike, with Spiderman costumes continuing to be top sellers for fancy dress retailers.

As you would expect with every well established character, spiderman costumes are available in a huge range of options.They even cater for fully grown males. Perhaps these are men who are reliving their childhood fantasies of always wanting to be a super hero. Whatever the reason sales continue strongly.

A fourth installment of the big-screen version of the comic book is due to be released in 2011, with the film’s producers promising many more Spiderman films to follow. It has been established that Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 are among the top twenty biggest grossing films of all time in the world, so why stop at number four? It obviously makes sense to stick with a winning formula.

Now we come to a new direction for the character, namely the infusion into the music scene with the inclusion of 12 songs from U2. This together with other costs, will make this musical the most expensive in Broadway’s history.

A report came in that in Thailand a child was rescued by a fireman wearing a spiderman outfit. Apparently the child crawled out on the roof to escape the fire and would not come back when called by his teacher. A fireman overhead his mother saying he loved spiderman. So we want back to the fire station, to put on a spidey outfit he just happened to have in his locker, and returned to coax the child back to safety.

The boy saw what he thought was spiderman and immediately threw himself into his arms fully confident he would now rescued.

The Israeli news headlines this year ran a story, that Highway police were called to apprehend a man in a Spiderman costume, who was frightening commuters by throwing ropes at their cars (presumably improvised “web-shooters”) and jumping on top of them.

The would-be superhero was arrested and, while under investigation, told police he had woken up in hospital wearing the Spiderman costume, with no recollection of how he came to be dressed in it or why he was there. Unsurprisingly, doctors were summoned to assess the man’s mental health.
